Sunflower Sprouts

Sunflower sprouts are loved by almost everyone.  They can be found in upscale restaurants as part of a delicious salad and sprouted in homes everywhere.  These sprouts are beautiful to look at and wonderful to eat.  They are long and tall, green up very nicely and add great flavor and nutrition to your day.  Sunflower sprouts can be eaten as a sprout or they can be juiced.  Either way, you are sure to enjoy them.

What Methods to Use for Sunflower Sprouts

Sprouting sunflower is easy as it takes well to many different platforms: Terra Cotta Tray Sprouters, The Sprout Master Tray Sprouters, automatic electric sprouters, and The Easy Green Mikrofarm Automatic Sprouter.  They can also be sprouted in a tray with soil or use a growing medium instead.  They key is to use a tray for sprouting as they grow so tall they do not do well in jars.

For sprouting, sunflower sprouts are mild but a bit astringent, that is why some people get a dry sensation in their mouth if they eat many sunflower sprouts in one sitting.   Most people don’t mind its crunch and that is why it does so well in sandwiches and sitting atop salads. Sunflower sprouts juice very well because of their high water content. They also blend very well for use in salad dressing and other recipes.

 More on Sunflower Sprouts

Some people who have gulten intolerance and cannot drink wheat grass juice or barley grass juice can get a good amount of daily chlorophyll from juicing sunflower sprouts.  They are also easier to grow then the grasses and can be eaten or juiced.  It is the preferred sprout in many homes.

Soaking Times for Organic Sprouting Seeds

For manual sprouting it is a good idea to soak the seeds prior to the sprouting process.  Generally, and you should follow manufacturer’s directions always, for electric automatic sprouters there is no need to soak the seeds prior to sprouting.   Read more…
